Most kids would love a pile of gifts for their 9th birthday, but Ethan Katz is a boss and looks at the bigger picture already at such a young age.
Instead of presents for his birthday, he wanted to save dogs from kill shelters. His mom, Lisa Katz, was only a little startled by her son’s wish, “I was a little bit surprised that he didn’t want a toy or some kind of gift or something but this is just who he is.”
To help raise funds to make adoption into foster homes possible for dogs in kill shelters, Ethan and his father designed some t-shirts to sell. They created them for City Dogs Rescue, which is an organization that rescues dogs, and sold them using Booster.
On Ethan’s Booster page for City Dogs Rescue, he wrote, “My name is Ethan Katz and I am eight years old. I love dogs. I have two dogs that are very sweet. My birthday is on May 29th. This year for my birthday I want to raise money for my favorite rescue organization – City Dogs Rescue. We rescued my dog Brooklyn from City Dogs in November. I made this shirt to sell for City Dogs.”
Already owning a rescued dog himself, Ethan has been able to rescue three more with his fundraising efforts! And it doesn’t look like he’ll be stopping any time soon. There is greatness ahead for this young man.
He was the first dog rescued using Ethan’s funds. Willie was adopted out of a kill shelter in Smyth County Marion, VA.
CDR managed to save Chi Chi from a kill shelter using funds raised by Ethan. Chi Chi is currently in foster care in the Washington, D.C. area.
On Ethan’s birthday, May 29th, this cute chocolate lab named May was rescued utilizing money raised by Ethan’s project. Here you can see May riding to freedom!
