A Couple Tipped Their Waiter $100 For The Worst Service Ever. Find Out Why!

Makenzie and Steven Schultz decided to hit up a sushi restaurant for dinner one night and about 20 minutes into the meal, when they still hadn’t received any water, they started to feel like it was going to be a terrible dining experience. They were right!

It took their waiter a full 40 minutes to get their appetizers out and the entree… over an hour! Now, most people would tip their waiter as little as possible in this situation to show how terrible the service had been, but this forgiving couple realized it really wasn’t the waiter’s fault. The restaurant was horribly understaffed that night and he was really doing his best to serve everyone.

The couple noticed that their waiter had a total of 12 tables to take care of plus the bar. Short staffed beyond belief, it was no wonder it was taking him forever to get their orders out. He continuously apologized to diners and never lost his cool or got annoyed, so the couple decided to reward the hardworking man and make his night with a $100 tip on a $66 meal!

Here is what Makenzie Schultz herself posted about it on Facebook: “So here’s the deal. Our service tonight sucked. Took 20 minutes to get water, 40 minutes for an appetizer and over an hour for our entree. People all around us were making fun of the restaurant & how bad the service was. Yeah, it was pretty terrible. But, it was very obvious that the issue was being short staffed, not the server. He was running around like crazy and never acted annoyed with any table. At one point we counted he had 12 tables plus the bar. More than any one person could handle! As I sat there and watched him run back & forth and apologize for the wait, I said to Steven… Wow, this used to be us. Waiting tables. I don’t miss it at all and I never loved that job. I did it for the tips. Steven and I agreed it would feel good to make this guys night when he would probably be getting minimal to no tips due to slow service. We walked out before he saw this and I’m not posting this for a pat on the back. I’m just sharing this as a friendly reminder to think of the entire situation, before you judge. And always always always remember where you came from.”

Next time you’re about to leave a bad tip, think about the fact that it might not have been the waiter’s fault at all. Sometimes it is their fault, but often times they’re really trying hard in a difficult situation like the one described above! Always try to get the whole picture, before you make a decision.

Known around here as "the German", I am indeed German, but have also spent some time traveling the world. With 10 years of my life spent in the United States, rumor has it that I may even know how to grill a great burger. I don't wear socks with sandals any longer, but I still drink beer and eat sauerkraut like a German. When I'm not writing about motivational and inspirational people on Like A Boss, I can usually be found lifting things up and putting them back down in my garage gym (a.k.a. the dungeon).
