91yo Former WWII Fighter Pilot Gets to Fly His First Spitfire

Meet 91-year-old Neville Croucher. During World War II, this brave man was a fighter pilot for the British Royal Air Force (RAF). Before the war, he was a baker’s boy, and even at 91 years old and having lived through war times as a soldier, he is still very humble. He didn’t even think he deserved this special day!

Neville Croucher served his country and the Allies with honor and survived 800 combat hours in the cockpit of a Hurricane fighter plane (pictured above), which is largely considered to be the inferior fighter plane used in WWII as compared to the Spitfire fighter (pictured below).

Thanks to the great people at Headcorn Aerodrome, former fighter pilot Neville Croucher finally got to fly one of the famous Spitfire planes he had always wondered about throughout his life. He always wanted to know what it would be like to fly one of these legendary planes and at age 91 he finally got the chance!

When he took over the controls of the Spitfire fighter, the 91-year-old looped the loop like a boss and really took advantage of the experience of a lifetime. After stepping out of the fighter plane, he said, “Wasn’t that something. I’ve wanted to do that my whole life.”

We wish Neville Croucher and the people at Headcorn Aerodrome all the best. You are true bosses!

About Sascha Brian

Sascha Brian
Known around here as "the German", I am indeed German, but have also spent some time traveling the world. With 10 years of my life spent in the United States, rumor has it that I may even know how to grill a great burger. I don't wear socks with sandals any longer, but I still drink beer and eat sauerkraut like a German. When I'm not writing about motivational and inspirational people on Like A Boss, I can usually be found lifting things up and putting them back down in my garage gym (a.k.a. the dungeon).
