When Keven Stonewall was in 5th grade, he discovered his passion for science and never looked back. Today, at just 19 years old, he has already developed a vaccine against colon cancer that has been proven 100% effective in mice. It’s a massive step in the right direction, especially coming from such a young individual who has his whole life ahead of him to make amazing discoveries.
He has also won top honors at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), which is the biggest scientific research event worldwide a person can take part in at a pre-college level. To win top honors at this event, you have to be a science boss like Keven! To summarize: He’s killing it!
Going forward, Keven plans to help find the cure for colon cancer. He has lost a number of family members to the deadly disease and hopes to develop a vaccine that can used and mass-produced to cure colon cancer in humans. His research inspires scientists around the world and especially his peers. Young people, who will help shape a brighter future for us all.
Colon cancer is an evil beast that Keven is trying to tame. It’s not only the third most diagnosed type of cancer, but it’s also the second most deadly in the United States (for both women and men). People diagnosed with colon cancer have a five-year survival rate below 60%. It’s a horrible disease and it kills most people that get it quickly.
The prognosis isn’t very good for colon cancer, so we hope Keven — with the help of other brilliant scientists and doctors — is able to find a cure for it! In Keven’s own words, “If you don’t plan to succeed, you’re planning to fail.”
