The tradition with letters started out like an Romeo and Juliette story. It was forbidden love, and tree with a knothole big enough for letters. A girl known as miss. Ohrt, loved a chocolate maker’s boy. Sadly, her father, Mr. Ohrt, forbade it. With the help of the old Oak, the young couple secretly exchanged letters in the forest. Eventually, the father gave in, and the young couple married under the three in 1891.
Thousands have written to the tree ever since, and hundreds claims their wish came through.
