Bob Blackley is 59 years old and wants to spread happiness. What better way to do that than to pass out $5 bills to random strangers on his birthday? In his hometown of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, he finds a busy intersection and holds up a carboard sign that reads, “I have a job. I have a home. Could you use an extra $5?”

It throws some people off at first, because they assume he must be trying to sell them something or is somehow trying to hustle them. For the most part though, it just puts smiles on people’s faces. They appreciate the friendly gesture and wish Blackley a happy birthday!
Blackley doesn’t care who gets the money. He gives because he’s able to and maybe there is some hope that people pay it forward, but there is no specific expectation from his end other than spreading joy among humanity!

Three years ago on his birthday, Bob Blackley began what is now a b-day tradition for him by giving away $700 total in $5 bills. The year after that, he bumped that up to $750. Always looking to beat the previous year’s amount, he gave away $800 this year like a boss!
Bob Blackley wants to put smiles on faces and that makes him a boss. Happy Birthday, sir!
