This story is so mindblowingly bosslike, we’re having trouble wrapping our heads around what just went down.
A little back story first: Two years ago, Jordyn Howe brought his stepdad’s gun on the school bus and accidentally shot his friend Lourdes ‘Jina’ Guzman-DeJesus in the neck. She died due to the tragic incident.
Jina’s mother Ady Guzman-DeJesus was obviously devastated by the loss of her 13 year old daughter, but that didn’t stop her from being a forgiving person like a boss. Forgiveness can be difficult and borderline impossible in a situation like this, but this woman is so kindhearted that she still managed to forgive the boy.
As part of a plea bargain arranged by Jina’s mom, the now 16yo Jordyn will serve a year in a juvenile detention facility and then speak to groups about the dangers of guns. Essentially Jina’s mom’s ability to forgive him saved Jordyn from going to prison for a very long time. It enables him to still have a future and learn from his horrible mistake.
Jina’s mom Ady said, “We can make a change to help other children. That was Jina’s friend, too, and I know she wouldn’t want the worst. I miss her and I really do forgive him.”
If you ever have trouble forgiving someone for something they have done to you and are genuinely sorry for, think about what forgiveness really means and let this story help make you more able to forgive like a boss.
We very much commend Jina’s mother for her display of forgiveness and compassion. She is a true boss.
