Musk Says Productivity Reports Due for Federal Employees

Tech mogul and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced a new initiative requiring all federal employees to submit productivity reports, aligning with a directive from the Trump administration.

In a Saturday post on X, Musk stated that federal workers will receive an email prompting them to detail their productivity from the previous week. Basically, Musk says productivity reports due or that will be taken as resignation if they are not completed and turned in.

Failure to respond to this email will be interpreted as a resignation, according to Musk.

“Consistent with President @realDonaldTrump’s instructions, all federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week,” Musk wrote. “Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.”

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) confirmed the plan in a statement to Fox News Digital, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to efficiency.

“As part of the Trump Administration’s commitment to an efficient and accountable federal workforce, OPM is asking employees to provide a brief summary of what they did last week by the end of Monday, CC’ing their manager,” an OPM spokesperson stated. “Agencies will determine any next steps.”

White House Communications Director Steven Cheung expressed approval for the initiative, sharing a screenshot of the email on X.

“This is such a good idea and even White House staffers can list all of the great things they’ve done this week, just like everyone in the Administration should do as well,” Cheung posted.

However, the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) strongly opposed the plan, stating it intends to challenge any unlawful terminations.

“It is cruel and disrespectful for federal employees to be forced to justify their job duties to this out-of-touch, privileged, unelected billionaire who has never performed one single hour of honest public service in his life,” the union wrote on X.

The productivity reports come as Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) continues efforts to identify and eliminate wasteful spending. In a post on X Tuesday, DOGE reported uncovering 4.6 million active government credit card accounts processing nearly 90 million transactions totaling approximately $40 billion in fiscal year 2024.

President Donald Trump has praised Musk’s leadership at DOGE, though he encouraged an even more assertive approach.

“ELON IS DOING A GREAT JOB, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HIM GET MORE AGGRESSIVE. REMEMBER, WE HAVE A COUNTRY TO SAVE, BUT ULTIMATELY, TO MAKE GREATER THAN EVER BEFORE. MAGA!,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Musk responded enthusiastically, replying, “Will do, Mr. President!”

As the initiative rolls out, federal employees must ensure they comply with the reporting requirements, as Musk says productivity reports due promptly.
